Engaging Cow Portrait

This particular cow is a steer, actually.  Dexter was a pet of one of my friends.  She captured this photo of him peering over the fence boards at her.  A truly wonderful moment, forever memoralized in an original painting I completed this year.

​For this series of animal paintings my usual approach  is depicting the eyes and muzzle in detail.  I indicate the ears less so,  then I allow the viewer’s imagination to “see” the rest.
